Our fantastic five just finished Kelly Corrigan’s The Middle Place.  I for one, LOVED IT!!  I had picked up and considered buying this book three if not four times.  But for one reason or another, I’d put it back down, vowing to find it again some day.  My day came when it was my turn to pick our next book.  It is all about the “middle place” between being an adult, with your own responsibilities, family, troubles, and still being a child.  Someones child.  Someone who still wants to protect you, and yet, may need your protection too.  Both Kelly and her father face cancer, as individuals, as a daughter, as a father, but also as a family.  I laughed out loud, and cried too, all in the first fifty or so pages.  She calls out herself when she is being bitchy, ridiculous, tired, and cranky.  She wonders at times why her husband even bothers to put up with her, and why on earth her young children still love her, after a particularly cranky afternoon.  She artfully describes her emotions, her fears, her deep down troubled thoughts.  I found myself completely enraptured, and loved every minute of this story.  Needless to say I highly recommend this book.  It is right up there with Eat Pray Love on my list.  Top five for sure.  I haven’t met with my book club yet, so I’m not sure if they are all in love with it like me.  But I am.  And sometimes that is all that counts.

Katie, John, and Family May 22, 2009

Some of my husband’s family lives in the central valley, and his Dad and step-mom were in town visiting their ridiculously adorable grandaughters.  The whole gang came out for family portraits while I was in town, and it was great to see and visit with them if even for just an hour.  These two little cutie pies are so photogenic, the shoot went by in a flash!  Thanks for coming out, and it was wonderful to see you all!

Alicia & Chris May 21, 2009

Alicia and I have shared so many memories together.  Living far apart, there has been some very important moments we have missed, and yet our friendship remains strong.  I don’t get to spend too much time with her family, but I have been fortunate enough to photograph them a time or two.  She and Chris have two beautiful children who are super sweet, a little silly, and mostly drop-dead gorgeous!  Here are just some of my favorites:

Sue & Brian May 21, 2009

So… I am totally biased.  I make no excuses.  And, it doesn’t help that I spent a few very precious days with Sue and her family, very soon after bringing home their beautiufl baby girl.  She holds a special spot in my heart, and talk about going way back!  Sue and I have laughed, cried, been complete idiots ( including a questionable picture of us with lampshades on our heads) played in the band, cheered, you name it, we did it.  And now, having the opportunity to photograph her family, well, needless to say is very special.  I look forward to more memories with you guys!

Marie & Matt’s Three Boys May 20, 2009

Marie and I go WAY back.  Back so far we used to pretend to be teachers together… back so far we would walk home from junior high together.  Back so far that it is absolutely amazing for me to see and photograph her three beautiful sons.  She and Matt were highschool sweethearts (yes, that still happens :) ) and they were two of the first to get married after highschool.  I am so happy for them, they have a wonderful family, and are doing great.  I loved chasing after your boys that day, you have done a great job!

Jeff, Jill and the Kids May 19, 2009

Jill and Jeff were my first clients on the big marathon Kingsburg shoot.  They told me they had never had a family portrait session, so needless to say I am honored that I was their first :)

The day was warm, but they were troopers.  They looked wonderful, and worked really well as a family.  I am pleased to post just a few of my favorites, and can’t wait for you to see the rest.  They will be up on Pictage.com by the end of the day.  ENJOY!!!!

I’m OFF!! May 8, 2009

So, I’m off to Kingsburg in the morning, and I am so excited, it almost feels like Christmas.  Not only do I get to photograph my old friends, but I also get to photograph their beautiful babies, and their husbands for the first time!  Creating memories via photography is the main reason I wanted to get into it in the first place.  I know that  a lifetime from now, someone will look through the pictures, and ooh and aww over how little the kids are, and how young the parents look.  I am very proud to be sharing my love for photography with old friends, and hopefully make this shoot an annual, or even semi-annual event.

And, to put the icing on the cake, I get to spend a few days with my beloved family.  My aunt and cousin are driving up, my oldest little cousin is coming from college, and I’m surprising my 82 year old grandma for mother’s day.  I haven’t spent time with my mom in what seems like forever, and even though the trip is only a few days long, I know it will be totally invigorating.  There is just something about being with people who love you literally no matter what, and who just “get” the person you have become.  No family is perfect, but every family is special.  Oh,  I can’t wait to see mine.  Have a great weekend everyone!

3-Day Progress Report May 7, 2009

Okay, so I haven’t been so great about walking lately.  Between some nasty weather, a few out of town trips ( including an amazing anniversary weekend on Whidbey Island with the best husband ever) I just haven’t been sticking to the plan.  But today I made sure to fit it in, and Kona and I did a long lap around the lake.  Although I am experiencing low dull pain in my back nearly every day, the major muscle spasms seem to be over, and I’m also trying to work in an hour massage every month, along with my weekly chiro appointments.  The 3-day just keeps getting closer, and it is really time to start some major training.  I’ve got to get motivated, and far more committed to daily walks.

On a fundraising front, thanks to: TJ and Paula in the Bay Area, my sister-in-law Robin in southern California, my best bud Ellie, and Cameron ’s grandma Gee Gee, I am now at……

64%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so close, and completely confidant that I will reach my goal by August 15th, 2009.

The RACK WARRIORS will also be hosting a befefit at Matt’s Rotisserie on July 16th!  More details to follow
